2001 Chev 1500 truck

I have a 2001 chev 1500 truck and the air compressor will not shut off after engine has been started with the AC switch turned off . Turn the truck off and the compressor will stay off until you turn the AC switch on. The system is cooling so good that it will freeze up at the evaporator if you don't shut the engine down. cycling switch at the evaporator has been replaced & didn't solve problem. Any Ideas?

Try unplugging the connector at the compressor, rule out a mech. deal in the clutch itself.

Thanks For your reply Tom3 but the cluch will release as soon as the engine is shut off and will stay released untill you turn the AC on. If I disconnect the cycling switch it will also release the cluch.
