New Engine? Well used I guess

I have a rod out on my engine. It is a 99 rodeo, anyone have any idea about where to get a used engine? I have looked everywhere and cannot find one for under 2500$$ I think that may be the lowest. If anyone has a internet link for me that would be super duper.

Re: New Engine? Well used I guess

Is $2500 for a used engine or new. I've always thought that if I had to replace either the engine or tranny in my Rodeo that Id see if I could shoehorn a vortec 4.8 w/4l60e in the thing. It cant possibly get any worse MPG and might as well have the extra power. Why dont you try this for me and tell me how big of a pain in the butt it is.

2500 sounds about right for a used engine.

did it run low on oil?

the shop over here also said about 2,000 for a used engine another shop said 2500 for a rebuilt one. but that vortec engine....is that possible. I have a 95 and i was thinking something along the lines of whatever is in the gmc typhoon.....may as well shoot for the moon while you have the chance. search the forum for engine swap and sheck it out. they say you can have a ball with the isuzu 4x4. BUT WHAT ABOUT THE 2WD SOMEBODY???

I would love the typhoon engine, however I hear that it doesn't get that good MPG.

Newt- there are no direct fit, or even close to fit 'alternative' engines that will bolt into the 1998+ rodeos. As you know, anything is possible if you have the cash. Your cheapest route is to try salvage yards that you can drive to.
G/luck
