92 Grand Caravan brake problems

I've had the pump & motor replaced (recall) as well as the accumulator package. Sensor on drivers side has been replaced. The anti-lock light comes on after putting it in gear (sometimes before). Brake pedal is sometimes hard to push, (sometimes just the opposite). Before the light comes on, I can hear a "clicka click clicka" in the dash. Took to dealer again & diagnostic report stated "ABS system is primitive & is not pinpointing the failure - recommend circuit trace to pinpoint failure" (that cost $80...called another dealer & service guy stated brake diagnostics on that year vehicle is useless, but if I brought it there, they'd run it anyhow, even after telling him I had a less than 2 week old diagnostic summary.
Anyone else have this problem? I'm getting ready to go on vacation & the wife is hearing all kinds of horror stories about brake failure on these model caravans.

Re: 92 Grand Caravan brake problems

the electric booster is total crap. I had the same problem on a 89 jeep cherokee I bought, when the pump goes, you may as well say you have no brakes because it is so hard to push. I converted the whole system to none abs, took the abs computer along with all the wheel sensors and through them in the garbage. Replaced the master cylinder with a vacum booster and master and proportion valve from a non abs model, life goes on....

Anyone?
I don't like the dealer's "we need to start at the back & trace the wiring with our handy-dandy snapon tester...we may find it in 15 minutes or it may take all day @ $75/hr"

after replacing the front sensors ( tech said the readings were way off), they determined it was the hydraulic control unit.
Now i'm trying to get that fixed under the recall.

Re: 92 Grand Caravan brake problems

You need to find a good 5 start cry/dodge dealer.
The ABS brake system on it is under a liftime recall warranty.
Call the 800 customer service no in your owners manual if you dealer does not take care of it at no charge.
And be careful when it quits you have no brakes.
Good luck
