Thumbs down Out of gear/Transmission until shutoff and then, restart the engine

my 1998 windstar has 144000 kilometers on it. whenever i would slow down the car or do steering maneaouver, the car would go to standstill. Means, inspite of being in drive it would not move ahead when gas pedal is depressed. I tried changing gears and still nothing would happen(wheather you put in d1 or d2 it would still not move). It would go in park. I would shut off the engine and restart the car in park. After that everthing would be normal.Transmission oilis new and the gears otherwise shift very gently. The engine did shut off on its own during slow steeering movement during parking operation and once even gave me engine light. this light did shut off on its own.Can any one at the forum give me advice on what is wrong with windstar.

Re: Out of gear/Transmission until shutoff and then, restart the engine

My guess is . . .
Wrong trans fluid was used during tune-up.

Please elaborate on the circumstances of the the trans fluid change. IE "you changed it" vs "Your Relative changed" vs "a trans shop changed it"

My concern is that your transmission now contains the wrong type of fluid. (Mercon vs Mercon V) ?

Are you going to attempt to fix this yourself?

Karl.
