What do you guys think of this? It doesnt seem real that you can get up to 32 hp, average prob like 15, but even then 15hp from a chip? But then agian it is from JEGS website and JEGS is a trusted company. Anyways guys, waste of $?

Waste of $ if you have a stock engine. But it is real and can work. But it's always better to get something that can be altered, and get your car tuned on a dyno. By dyno tuning, you'll see far more gains than just having generic settings.

Next time you make a thread, please make it easier on everyone else and put a short description of the topic instead of a URL.

any changing of timing and ignition maps need to be done on a dyno. or least some street tuning. every car is different.

sending in your ecu to have new maps thrown on it and then saying it gives you 32 hp is just plain stupid false advertisement and dangerous for your engine. they are trying to sell a product. nothing more.

just send me your ecu and ill put a new basemap on it for you. ill only charge you $100. god, the money i would make.

learn about what you buy before you buy it, and, you wont ever run into problems. well, most of the time.

Jeg's is a good distributor; they dont actually make that product.

if you already have your ecu socketed, there are some guys that will get you a new chip/map for like $25. those "stock" maps usually run better than those JUN and Spoon chips that are sold on ebay.

1. See im completely new to this stuff. Whats it mean to have your ECU socketed? And whats a map, JUN and Spoon chip?

2. The 32 HP is the max it can give for ANY car and I forgot which one it was that was dyno'd @ 32. I got a 96 prelude SI and it says it will give it 11 i believe.

3. I already got a short air intake, DC Headers and a cat back with a flowmaster 60 series muffler. What should I do next? Is this chip a good route? Has to be legal and car is 95% daily driver. If chip is not a good route then what is the next upgrade I should do?

chip is a good choice for next step, next mods that you can do besides internal engine stuff, are underdrive pulleys, cam gears, ignition, suspension.

as for your question, to have an ecu socketed, that means to have the stock chip removed from the ecu and a new one put in. the new one will contain revised maps, or 'charts' of air/fuel ratios across your powerband, these will affect how much of the air/fuel mixture is sent into the motor at a given point.

JUN and Spoon are two tuner companies that make these types of chips.

Waste of $

Usually chipped ECUs ruin your emmisions and you can't reverse it................puttin the stock ECU back in will not reverse the effects when it comes time for another emmisions test..........but if its not a car you plan on keeping or you just take to the track than get a cheaper chipped ECU......thats just way to much...........One word.......EBAY..............~deuce~

Yes it will, if it's not an OBD2 car. The OBD1 cars don't store the info like the OBD2 ones do. So if he was to switch back to the stock ECU, it'd be back to stock emmisions controls. The only other possibility is having the cat ruined with gunk from running so rich.

huh? thank you for the false info sir. save it for a forum such as clubcivic.com

anyways,

the stock ecu is resetted when it loses its 12v source (hints whenever it is disconnected from the battery source).

maybe you meant running rich and clogging the cat and damaging the o2 sensors?
