MAF sensor did nothing

When I hooked up my K&N FIPK, I got everything put together, closed the hood, started the engine to let it get warm for about 5 minutes, and drove off. I drove about 5 miles to the mall. When I came out, before I got to the truck, I realized that I had forgotten to plug the wire back into the MAF sensor. Even after the truck had been idling, and I drove it 5 miles with the MAF sensor disconnected, I got no warning or error lights of any kind, and the truck did not act funny while driving. After I hooked it back up, I didn't notice any difference. Just something I noticed... what do you think?

Re: MAF sensor did nothing

Some codes won't get set until the PCM has seen the problem on 3 different trips (engine starts, warms up, engine is turned off, engine cools is one trip).

With the MAF disconnected, the backup system of speed density is used and it sounds like it worked pretty good since you did not notice anything different.

Re: MAF sensor did nothing

I did the same thing you did when I installed my FIPK, and when I started my truck, it would hardley idle. It was idled down really, really low, almost like it had a big cam.

Re: MAF sensor did nothing

When I first hooked mine up, I a hard time just keeping the damn truck from stalling. It ran crappy!! The second time, it was much better and the third, it rocked...so I think maybe the computer hadn't finished resetting itself (I assume you disconnected the battery ground as instructed). I was initially sure I had screwed something up, but all was well. If it's running well...keep you mouth shut, don't tell anyone else and keep driving!!!!

Nope... if there's one thing I've learned, it's thatno matter what a set of instructions tell you how to do, they all now tell you to disconnect the battery. I think companies do that to cover their own asses, like McDonald's telling you that the coffee in the cup is hot. If I had instructions on how to change oil, it would probably tel you to disconnect the battery. Anyway, do you think I need to reset the PCM to take better advantage of the intake?

Well I heard that doing so speeds up the process of the PCM's learning curve. In case you don't know, to reset the pcm you just unhook the battery for 5min. Personally, I would go ahead and do it, the only inconvinence that it will cause is resetting your radio.
