Crank Position Sensor Symptoms

My 97 SSE has the symptoms consistent with CPS problems. Starts when the engine is cold but wont start when warmed up after sitting for about 5 minutes. Let it sit for half an hour and she cranks right up again.

My question is this. Is there any way to make it start when this happens other than waiting around for 1/2 an hour. I just cant resist the urge to keep twisting the key even though it is useless.

I am overseas so I will have difficulty replacing any major parts for american made cars that require special tools. So I need tempory "Make it go" solution for the next 8 Month's.

Any suggestios would be appreciated.

Try spraying water on the sensor to cool it down. It should start right up if this is your problem.

I put a spray bottle in the trunk. Next time It won't start I am going to try to cool it with the water. Looking at the engine I think It's going to be difficult to spray in just the right spot. It's worth trying.

Thanks for the response.

No luck with the spray bottle. The sensor is behind a shield. Guess I just have to make one way trips...

Re: Crank Position Sensor Symptoms

Cooling with water is working.

You need a squeeze bottle to get the water to the right spot. Squirt a stream between the pullies where the wiring harness to the sensor is. Takes a few bottles of water to cool sufficiently.

Thanks for the Make it go Solution!
