89 daytona cs

I just go my car about a month ago and every one keeps asking me if is a shelby. I have been trying to find out what the cs stands for on my fenders but so far no luck. Can any one help answer my question. Is the 89 daytona cs turbo considered a shelby?

Re: 89 daytona cs

Actually the 89 Daytona Shelby cars will say "SHELBY" on each door above the multi line vinyl striping on the car, the "CS" should be shown on the center cover of the "Pumper" style wheels on the car. I included a pic of my son's Radiant Silver 89 Daytona Shelby showing the locations of each.

BTW, there was to the best of my knowledge what they called a CS performance package but I think it was more or less a handling package including the wheels shown. There is also such thing as a "ES Turbo" model in 89.

Well my car only has the cs on the front finders and then it says turbo on the hood scoop. So does that mean it is just one of the turbo packages? And my car has what they called the snowflake wheels. So there is nothing on my wheels.
I am also wondering if any one else out there has had problems with this car starting and staying running while you are driving down the road. Ever since i got it i have been having problems getting it to start and with it dying while i am driving down the road. I have replaced the fuel filter and the fuel relay. But now my problems seems to be in the coil.
Please help I am at a loss at this one?

Re: 89 daytona cs

Ok, after a discussion with my son and doing a little reading, I stand corrected. from 88 to 91 there was also a special model out called the "C/S Competition Package" but not like what was described in my earlier post. It could have a 2.2 liter Turbo I Engine with a 5 speed or Auto Tranny, or a 2.2 liter Intercooled turbo II with a 5 speed only but without the exterior add-ons except the "C/S" badging, rear spoiler, and no A/C, power windows, power seats, etc. There also was a special suspension package (but with the 15" "snowflake" wheels not the 16" pumpers) that went on the car and was designed for autocross type racing, the 87 "Shelby Z" also had this package. The car weighed 200 pounds less than the normal base models from omitting any luxury and body items and had the "weekend racer" certainly in mind. It could be very possible that is what you actually have. Heres a link to the Daytona page at AllPar for some info.

Re: 89 daytona cs

I had an '89 CS. If only I'd known what I had, I would have kept it. The C/S stands for "Competition Series"; No power accessories or A/C was available on a C/S. Mine was a 2.5 T1 (non-intercooled) with dealer installed A/C. It had wheels that looked like the 16" Shelby pumper wheels...but they were 15". Had 4-wheel disc brakes.

Mine was stock, and it ran strong. I never did time it or take it to the strip, but I swear it was faster than my '89 Shelby Daytona.
