2 problems in new car
Well I just got my 96 ESi a week ago and I just started noticing 2 things.
First: Whenever I apply my brakes I hear a noise coming from my front right tire I think. Not really sure how to describe it. It's kind of like a womp, womp, womp. Second: After I stop my car and turn it off I can hear a weird ticking noise coming from the front right of the engine compartment(as you're sitting in the car). It seems to be closer to the bottom than the top. This noise lasts for about 1-1 1/2 minutes after I turn off the car. I'm not sure if this noise is present when I drive or not. Also, is there anyway to post a sound on the internet? Thanks

1) Try tightening up the lugs on the wheels, they could be loose.
2) I've never heard of anything that lasts 1-1.5 mins after a car is off. I know there is the sound of the ecu turning off when you turn the car off and maybe some bulbling of coolant but what you described Im at a loss.

Re: 2 problems in new car
1.Take of the wheel that you hear noise from and check the condition of your brake rotors and pads. After torque the wheels to ~90lbs/ft.
2. My best "Internet" guess on the sound you've described when the car is off: The high temperature from your exhaust is heating a heat shield (most likely your exhaust manifold heat shield) causing the metal to make a "crackling" noise. Think back to high school science and the theory of molecules.

Will this damage anything on my car because of the excess heat? This problem happens when driving short distances(4 miles). Should my exhaust be getting that hot that quickly?

Re: 2 problems in new car
On your next day off, try to remove the exhaust manifold heat shield and check if the exhaust manifold has cracks in it (Have new bolts and a threader, these bolts are usually not easy to remove and they often snap). This would raise the temperature of the heat shield. The extra heat should'nt cause any problems as long as your engine cooling system is 100%. The extra heat going on the cylinder head (not really extra since it's coming from the exhaust valves) from the exhaust should be easily cooled down by the coolant flowing through the head. I drove around for 3 years w/ cracks in the exhaust manifold and never ran into any problems.
