2000 Durango/No speedometer, chk engine light, ABS light
I have a 2000 Dodge Durango with 99,000 miles, and the check engine light, and ABS light came on, the speedometer/trip meter quit working. The tach works. The P code using the key method gave me 'P 0500, P 0551, P1687'. Everthing else seems to work. Can someone help me with the codes or suggestions? Thanks.

ABS Module
Many people have had this problem. It is probably the ABS Module. You can call Auto & Truck Electronics 1-800-257-3395 ext 29 (Jamie)(http://autoecu.com/default.asp) and she will help you out. They can fax you a UPS label and some diagrams.
I did this with my Saab. I rented a car while I waited for the ABS module re-build. |

Had this problem in My 2000 Durango
I had this exact problem and I connected a Snap On Scanner and it told me the Vehicle speed sensor was not detected. There are three sensors that are connected with this issue (I have already replaced all but 1)
There is an input shaft sensor on the trans, an output shaft sensor (located on the rear of the trans), and the "speed sensor" (located in the rear differential housing). As a general rule the speedometer will begin to work somewhere above 35 MPH if it is the sensor in the rear diff. When the output sensor went out I got a check engine light and had problems with the runability of the vehicle but the speedometer still worked. I have yet to have to replace the input sensor (thankfully). I hope this can help. |
