Diesel engine for a 1972 Super Beetle?

Hi Everybody

Im new here, and a new VW Beetle Owner! I just got my first Beetle and already want to make changes...

When looking for a vehic I originally wanted a 1998 or so Golf with a TDI in it. But they are impossible to find and when you do they want way too much for them. I NEED GAS MILEAGE!!!

So my vw has a 1600cc petrol engine, and I have heard anywhere from 28 - 35 MPG on them. Not bad but I would like to get 40 out of it if possible.

So my question is are there any Diesel engines for this car? It would have to be air cooled and fit without any major reconstruction involved.

Thanks,

Jeremy

Ive never heard of a air cooled diesel engine for an older vw. That would be interesting though.

No air cooled diesels for cars....the diesels run hotter and need the water for cooling.A small air cooled diesel wouldnt live long.Diesel air cooled Deutz engines meant for large machinery are available, but I doubt they would fit in a Beetle! lol

This is an online VW mecha! And I gave you a link to there forums you dont need a logon to read but i would recomend. You can doit btw but you have to convert it to a water cooled motor which is not that uncommon my super gets 33mpg with just a ballanced and counterwheighted motor!
