Legacy Vs SLK350

I was Driving home after hitting some balls at the range with some friends, really not looking for a race...

Theres an SLK thats been tailing me pretty closely suddenly switches lanes and takes off leaving me in the dust. Now im not having that in the Subie, definately in the Protege, but not in my baby...so I hit the gas and track him down...now the light up ahead is red so he slows down and I slow down (stupidly not gearing down aggressively)...were about even about 10 feet to the light when it goes green and he takes off

now im in 4th looking like an idiot way out of turbo with this guy taking off, so I quickly shift to 2nd and rev the hell out of the car and launch pretty quickly making up alot of distance...buy the time I shift to 3rd im at the back of his seat...by 4th were basically neck n neck...im pushing in 4th then 5th and have hit about 180km/h and were still very close we keep these speeds up for a good km with nobody pushing ahead ...Sadly, up ahead there were about 6 cars stopped at the next red so we both had to slow down quickly...it was my turn anyways so I made my left turn, I keep looking over and finally he looks back...I give the thumbs up and him...and the 25 year old asian dude trying to look like Vin Diesel gives this lil nod and takes off down the road...

I don't know whether I won or not, I think he was ahead by a hair when we slowed down, but nothing decisive...It was great fun tho, and the SLK's can really fly, I just wanna try an AMG now..

Cliffnotes..Raced a SLK350 from a (about) 20km/h roll...I gained on him from 2nd-4th...I think he beat me by a little bit, but it was very close...

Re: Legacy Vs SLK350

So did it feel good beating a merc? Yeah, same here...it's only a merc =P Tough beating an AMG though. That would be a more interesting race.

Funnily enough I saw a guy who looked like vin diesel today...difference he was in a liberty - old school one though.

you beat a car that does high 13's and traps over 100? in a subie from a roll...dont know how bad he was driving but maybe he wasnt all out. i was at the track about 3 wks ago. there was an slk350 there and the guy was running 13.7's all night with a 13.6 as his best time. the traps were like 100-102 on all of his runs. i talked to him and he said the car was all stock. it had 1200 miles on it, and he wanted to see what it could do. i raced him in my g35, and he killed me. i was running 14.6-14.4 that night and he straight up burned me.

i don't wanna sound like an asshole, but i don't know what the hell he was doing. good kill though!!!

Re: Legacy Vs SLK350

He took a brand new $55k mercedes with 1200 miles on it to a dragstrip? The douchebag should have his car impounded for being a fucking idiot.

actually, these new ones are available in either a 6-speed manual or a 7 speed auto. the guy at the strip had the 6-speed manual.

here's some info from the mercedes website on the slk350.

i actually noticed that there is an slk280. this one ovbiously has a smaller engine, so maybe this is the one he beat. here's the info:

i agree, but the guy actually drives all of his cars hard during break-in. He says they put down more horsepower, and his tip was to always make sure the engine was warm before drivng fast. This dude pulled out the dyno sheets for his other car, a mercedes e55, and he was making 440rwhp. Most e55's will put down 415-425, but this guy said it was due to his break-in. He said he convinced his wife to buy an identical e55 and hers dynoed only 422rwhp after a relaxed break-in. This gain could be a coincidence, but i would be happy w/a vehicle putting down any of those two hp numbers.

Re: Legacy Vs SLK350

I got to drive a SLK350 for about 5 minutes once - it was fast as f*ck. That seven-speed gearbox feels like it's always in the sweetspot. They're deffinately fast.

Re: Legacy Vs SLK350

hmmmm...I know the car is fast, and I dunno wut tyo say as to how I kept with up wit it

first thing, the only lead he took on me was the time it takes me to shift from 4th to 2nd, so he really wasn't far ahead...mabe his AT didn't pick up that he was racing quickly and didn't get the motor in its sweet spot...also the Legacy's 2nd 3rd and 4th gears are very close ratioed so I stay right at max boost throughout all 3 gears, which would account for catching up...lastly, the race basically ended at about 190km/h mabe 200...he probably would have much stronger pull with 7 gears at 200+, while all I could do was sit in 5th

slk weighs only 3200 lbs and has 268 hp, the best 0-60 time i saw was a 5.3. definitly a fast car.

what would u get? 7 spd auto or 6 spd manual?(i prefer the manual)

Re: Legacy Vs SLK350

7 speed auto, it seems like that trans would constantly being pulling away like a beast. Even though i fear the repair bill if something were to break on a 7 speed automatic trans.

Nice race by the way

Yeah it can get confusing...but most of the planet uses km/h and the metric system. The US would too if it weren't for Ronald Reagan.
