Re: what oil filter do you guys use??

I use fram, but thats just because thats wht the guy behind the counter gives me. I used Purolator once, but thats because i bought i somewhere else and thats what they gave me. Do they really make that much of a difference?

I use whatever filter the guys at Jiffy Lube install for me lol. I thought about asking this question the other day also. I know a lot of you hate on Fram a lot on here. What difference does the filter make really?

I use a Napa Gold 1522, which is made by Wix and German Castrol oil and change it every 3,000 miles.

Re: what oil filter do you guys use??

Not to post rob but this follows with the what brand filter question.... Has anyone installed a larger filter than the stock one the guy behind the counter hands you? Does a larger filter FIT in the oilpan cavity? If so, what is the part #?

Oh, I use WIX filters. Occasionally Purolator.

Re: what oil filter do you guys use??

FRAM ICK< FRAMS FRIGGEN #@S*%*&A@!, suck with the exception of the fram xtended guard filter, all of them use cardboard end caps, meaning that they can get soggy and distribute cardboard to your motor, leak bad oil back into the system, fail. Also people have noticed a lot of valvetrain nose with them. Purolator Pure One's are great in terms being able to filter, but they are just to dang restrictive in my opinion, the inside is practically a whole chunk of filter media. Basically anything but fram is good, also avoid quakerstate, and pennzoil oil filters because they are also fram extra guards. Wix, purolator premium plus, Carquest (these are made by wix), napa (these are also wixes), power flo (basically a purolator premium plus), Bosch Premium, K&N (Champ Labs), AC Delco Duraguard, Advance Auto Total Grip (Also a purolator premium plus), even the wal-mart supertech filter with e-core (made by champ labs also) is better than fram and only $2.07, Amsoil, Mobil 1 (champ labs, I LUV THESE, they are my favorite cuz they have a synthetic blend media, low torque gasket, silicon anti drainback valve that wont crack, thickest shell, metal end caps, etc, but they cost like around 10 bux), anyway just stay away from fram, i've known ppl who have had them fail.

Re: what oil filter do you guys use??

Only WIX, and nothing else. I'd use K&N but can't find them anywhere.

Re: Re: what oil filter do you guys use??

L98Driver, good summary. I use the Puralator One during the spring/summer months - for extra quality filteration. Then as colder temperatures come - I switch to the lower level Puralator Premium Plus filter. I've cut open a couple filters - and the Puraltors are nicely designed and built compared to some others (in a pinch the WalMart Supertechs aren't bad either).

Like you - the Puralator One is a "bit much filter material" if there is cold related restriction possible - yet for me - summer driving could be the toughest on the engines (and pulling) so I figure more possibility for contaminants etc.. Been a good story so far the last number of years - so I'm sticking with it

I don't even know where you can get a Wix filter... Nobody around here seems to carry them

Re: what oil filter do you guys use??

O'reilly's carry wix. Not sure where else. They are practically in my back yard so I usually go there.

Re: what oil filter do you guys use??

Fram is the worst oil filter on the market by far. My friends and I cut some filters open just out of pure curiousity to see which one had the best filtration system and we all had a great laugh when we saw how bad the Frams were... but they do run a great advertising campaign!
