s10 wont start again

I have had this truck for a while now. I replaced the rotor, cap, plugs, wires, main computer, o2 sensor, and map sensor. It all started one morning when I went to start it i turned over fine but wouldnt start. I tried a few times then popped the hood. I looked around and pressed down on the distributer cap for some reason. Got back in the truck and it started. Later on I checked for spark coming out of the cap and it wasnt very strong at all. Thats when i decided to replace everything. Now it has tons of spark but i finished up and again went to start it and it turned over good but didnt start. Pushed on the cap and tried again and it started. it runs fine when its warm. I got tired of this so its sitting now. Its getting fuel and being a redneck I did the old fuel int the carb sure fire start method and it didnt even caugh. Now its to a point it wont even start even after i mess with the cap. This truck wants to run and when it does its runs great. I just cant seem to find the bug.

does your cap seem to have alot of play in it? it should fit really snug. it shouldnt be able to move (up,down or side to side) at all.

Been there done that. When I had that problem I found that inside the distribitor there is a some type of a magnet with a star like plate over it. The plate had light rust on it. I thought what the heck I have tryed everything else so I pulled it and wire wheeled the plate. I put it back in and it fired rite up. The rust came back even though I waped it down with W-D40 so I took it with me to the dealer and got a new one . Problem Solved!. You should also check the wires going to the ignition modual, make sure the modual has good contact on its base and have the modual checked at your local auto parts store. Make sure the distribitor has good contact with the block and all the wires have good conections.

ok tried the star plate. I pulled the cap wire first and made sure there was plenty of spark. i then changed the plate with a brand new one. there was alot of rust on it so i was hoping this would do it. went and tried to start it and same old song and dance. the cap is on correct and there is no play. i guess i will try what blazerlt recomended. i will change the new plugs to delco, new pcv valve and new fuel filter. I will also try to clean the throttle body and maf sensor.

Re: s10 wont start again

I will check the ignition module. I guess it slipped my mind because I was getting really good spark.
