Engine swap in 97 Camry 5sf3 to 3sfe will it fit?
I am looking into putting a jdm 92-95 3sfe into a 97 camry with usdm 5sfe obd2, can a trade oil pumps to make the crank sensor work? Also swap the intake and exhaust manifolds to retain egr function? I know this is a loss of power but the 5sfe threw a rod and needs to be swapped, need a car to drive and have very small budget. Thanks

Wow, interesting to hear that someone else's 97 Camry blew a rod. My ex-boyfriend's "check engine" light came on for an EGR code, took it in to be repaired and it threw a rod. Replaced with an engine from a 98 camry but the check engine light kept coming back on and it kept blowing smoke, so we just gave it up and got a Subaru. Haha.

Re: Engine swap in 97 Camry 5sf3 to 3sfe will it fit?
straywise: '97 Camrys are prone to sludge and kill the engine. See the first post in the FAQ thread.
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...49&postcount=1 It may not have died as a result of sludge build-up in the sump and subsequent oil starvation, but it wouldn't surprise me at all. Toyota will replace the engine if you have oil-change receipts and they find it was sludged.
