new eclipse engine

I heard that the New 260 plus hp eclipse has the same engine as the vr-4 minus the turbos.. Is this true??

Not true. Its a 3.8 6G75 with MIVEC.

Yes indeed very nice engine, I'm wanting to fab one up into my car, but then I would have to get it rebuilt to wistand turbos, lower the compression and hopfully the tranny will bolt up... and like he said its a 3.8 MIVEC,
(MIVEC sorta serves the same function like VTEC on hondas)

Talskinyguy mentioned the tranny was on the opposite side. and yeah, I'm sure by Feb. there will be turbo kits for the 3.8. MIVEC is just regular variable valve timmming, almost all modern cars have it, Honda is the only one that makes it sound like its super unique. Its like Nissan advertising that thier cars are faster cause they use Exterior Air Filtrated Direct Induction! so Sentras are like crazy fast with thier EAFDI!

Hmmm true... how they manage 3.8? more stroke or bigger cylenders? (if thats the case the the block itself would be bigger than a 3000gt)
or mabey its a little bit of both.

lol, I haven't driven one of the new eclipses, but I've been meaning too, I hear they're really nice... I don't care too much for the new stylings however... still better than the 2000-2005 ones tho.

MIVEC is something that would be nice to have if you have a naturally aspirated mitsu. Now, if you go turbo, it would much more beneficial not have variable timing. There is a whole thread on 3SI recently discussing why variable timing is not exactly easy to deal with turbos.

I'm not too impressed with the 3.8 though. seriously the VQ35DE in the 350Z and the G35 makes 389 HP ......or is it 398? whatever, the point is its 3.5 and makes more power and better numbers than the 3.8!
and then there is the style, it looks like a Audi TT and a Galant GTZ made sweet car love and had a baby.

I dont think Mitsu is putting thier hearts into it anymore.

Uhhhhh, I knew that. I ment 289 or 298. I kept thinking how close to 300HP they are that I typed 389-398 instead.

Right on Musashi. i dont think theyre selling too good either. ive only seen 1 on the road. I am glad that they kinda went back towards the '90s roofline though. Much better than the previous Gen. With a bodykit to get rid of that hideous front fascia i think i might like it.

Oh, and someone told me that Mitsu already has plans for an eclipse GT turbo version in 07...anyone else heard anything about this?

Just another rumor started bt Mitsu nuts. No different than the rumors that the 3s is comiong back.
