2000 silverado missing

my 2000 silverado with 80000 miles started missing on the beggining of a
long vacation trip, the first 100 miles it would only miss every 5 to 10min.
at 50 to 60 mph. By the time i had travelled 300miles it had gotten worse
missing every few sec. and the check engin light came on.
I stoped at a canadian tire and they put it on the diagnostic computer
and sugested i change the plugs and wires because i had missfireing on
multiple cylenders, so i change them. The rest off the trip the return home the truck ran purfect. 4 weeks latter the truck starts missing again but only once in a while. I checked the coils and new wires in the dark and even spraid them with water but no sparks and engine kept running fine.
Does anyone have any ideas? It would be much appreciated.

you might try starting the truc after dark, open the hood, unplugging the under hood light, and checking to make sure there is no arcing going on in there

check the wires and make sure the boots didn't come loose from the plugs or coils, might want to run put some injector cleaner in the tank when u fill up a few times, may have a clogged or sticking injector, has the fuel filter ever been changed

I changed the fuel filter and tried injector cleaner but to no avail.
i also checked the plug wire conections at the coils and plugs and all
is good.
The missing always seems to be at about 1500rpm.

Re: 2000 silverado missing

I have a 2002, 2500hd, crew cab 8.1.

Had a similar problem. Intermittent missing.

One of the plug wires was rubbing against the steering column. It only arc'd when the steering column was turned in a certain position.

Drove me f--kin crazy. Check it on your truck.

Thanks spackelman, i check and it`s not that.
I read in the suburban forum that it could be my camshaft position sensor. My brother has a 2001 gmc with a 4.8L also, so i will swap parts with him and see if that works.
does anyone know where the camshaft sensor is located on my 4.8L?

Re: 2000 silverado missing

camshaft position sensor is on the back of engine top of block in middle next to oil pressure sensor, oil pressure sensor is the one closest to drivers side.

do i have to pull the intake manifold ( the plastic piece that holds the fuel injectors and throttle body) off to get to those sensors.

the manual doesn't say you have to pull intake, but that doesn't always mean you don't, i would take a look and see if you can get at it first
