95 Explorer, could popping be transmission?

I have a 95 explorer with 145k , new auto transmission installed a year or so. Lately the overdrive off light is blinking , shifting may be a little hard from first..and otherwise doing ok until I stop at light etc...then Im getting a thud or pop immediately after car halts....then does ok until the next stop and I get that thud again....Could this be a tranny early signal of failure..or could it have anything to do with cruise control of something external to tranny? The overdrive light is main thing that makes me suspect transimssion.....I plan to check universals asap.
Input would be appreciated.

Your tranny is trying to take another dump on you , the O/D light blinking is a trouble light for the electronic trensmission, same thing as a check engine light, means somthing aint quite right. it too can be diagnosed at a shop if they have the right equipment, Good Luck, dont even bother with checking the universals its your tranny.

Thanks for the reply.....
I found the identical problem on another thread last night....The corrective action for him was to disconnect the battery cable and allow the computer to reset itself....I did that and it works perfectly now.....
Thanks again,
