88 mercury tracer/ 88 ford escort gt

I have an 88 merc tracer 1.6 5 spd trans. I use it for racing on a 1/3 mile paved oval track in upper michigan. the problem is i want to take the 1.6 out and drop in a 1.9 h.o. out of an escort gt. i need to know if the transmission bolt patterns to the block are the same. i need more power to the ground and the 82 hp out of the 1.6 is not enough. any help would be great.

Re: 88 mercury tracer/ 88 ford escort gt

I belive an 88 Mercury Tracer is just a rebadged Mazda 323. So a Ford Escort motor would'nt swap, but you could use a Mazda GTX motor, more power anyways.

If it's using the 1.6 CVH a 1.9 HO might bolt up. Ford did use a 1.6 in it's old Escorts (85 and prior). But I think that a Tracer is when Ford when to the Mazda protege'/323 design. Before that they had Lynx's.
