Talking I Figured It Out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this thread is for all of you guys that have trouble with having your tachometer needle jumping all over the place when youre driving. now keep in mind, this is only one answer that may be the problem, NOT THE ONLY!!! but anyway...

i posted a problem that my tachometer started jumping from 2000 - 5000 rpms while i was driving. from my own experience, this was a precursor to my ignitor going out.

HOW DO YOU KNOW THIS? (well i thought you would never ask)

i was driving down 95 south heading home from a sushi bar when i was on the on ramp and pressing the gas. the car started to slow down even tho i was accelerating. then it sputtered for a little bit until it finally gave out and the car shut off. when i tried starting it, the car would crank, but wouldnt run. same problem i had when i messed up the first ignitor from before. good thing i had a spare in my car. so my friends and i were at the side of the highway at 2 in the mornig working on my car. i replaced the ignitor and the car started right up.

WHY DID YOUR IGNITOR MESS UP? (another good question)

oil on the spark plugs. yes sir! oil on the spark plug can mess up your ignitor by sending that spark that your car needs back to the distributor. well thats how a friend of mine described it to me.

so what do you guys think? am i on the right track? and i hope this helps to anyone that had the same problem as me

Could be many things:

worn valve guides, but probably not on your car.

worn or damaged piston rings

worn or damaged valves

Personally i'd have the piston rings checked out, what are your driving habits?? Slow n easy? Easy going w/ the occasional speed spike? Or do you not even give the engine a breather (=P)?

Re: I Figured It Out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

uhm id say...easy going with the occasional speed spike. i know my engine wouldnt be up to par trying to mash on the gas all the time.

ive seen the damaged done to some of my friends cars since they always wanna race.
