Angry Bike Won't Start

I'm new at working on motorcycles...I have a 1982 GS850 that I am trying to get back on the road. We have rebuilt the carbs after having sat unmolested for 4 years. Everything went great...but the bike does not start. We have sprayed carb cleaner in the air intake and it starts right up...then dies 2 seconds later. I have cleaned the fuel tank and fuel filter...it does not seem to be getting gas...

Frustrated...any pointers?

Thanks!

Re: Bike Won't Start

the carb was rebuilt 4 years ago the way i read this? well my first bike was a dirt bike non the less but its still comparable it hadent been rode for quite a while and it did about the same thing except it might run and idle but you give it gas it dies tore apart the carb whatdyou know its all clogged up with rust chips cleaned it all out then cleaned the tank with miratic acid to kill the rust then rinsed it out with gas put it all back together and whatdyou know it still runs today 3 years later! granted its started and ran semi regularly now

Yea sediment in the carbs can cause a lot of problems. It is possible. Try doing a thorough clean of the carbs and try it again.

Maybe your petcock isn't functioning properly? Try running gas straight into the carbs and see if it starts. Attaching a funnel to the line that runs from the petcock to the carbs bypass the petcock (which will allow you to fill it up from the funnel).

Don't know if you have checked your plugs, but I would go ahead and make sure their sparking correctly.

Old intake manifolds also have a bad habbit of drawing in air which could be a possiblity. Check em out.
