Re: Police Look-alike impalas

well a few esays are these. so you have fog lights or a spoiler, if so remove the spoiler, and I have yet to figure out a cheap way to remove fog lights without leaving holes. and if you have aluminum rims, you'll need to get the stock steel wheels and find some center caps on ebay. and if you want a push bumper and spotlight. but let me tell you right now, police will not like it, while it's not illegal, you may catch some hell from officers.

You guess need to be careful with your look alike impalas. One, and by experience, you are a moving target to people who don't like police officers. I'm a firefighter/emt/res. officer, and my impala has a full size light bar and strobes and such. I dont' have the center caps or a push bumper. You cannot mount certain push bumpers on a civilian impala because it doesn't have the beefed up crossbar on the bottom to mount it and beable to have the strength to push objects. The police also don't like it because they believe you are trying to be somehting your not. I'm not being an ass about this or telling you that you are wanna bes and such. Just giving you a heads up from the law enforcement public safety side.

Be safe,
Mike

Quoting only because I get dirty looks from my car which at one time was a Real police Impala. I don't have spotlights, pushbar or anything mounted in my windows. Just the standard black wheels with caps and I STILL get dirty looks from people.

As for looking like a Police car. Spotlights are a big one. Most cruisers have one on the driver side only, although many have come with them mounted on both sides. Pushbar helps the appearance from the front. The other obvious thing would be the black Steelies with center caps. Its a purely your choice if you wanted to add the chrome lip around the edge of the rims as some police cruisers do have them.

Depending on what sort of cruiser your trying to look like. Attenna's mounted on the trunk in either Single, dual or Triple attenna's. My cruiser had 3, Notice pics of the 3 spots on my trunk below.

and a closeup of the stubs...

Perhaps another thought for adding to an Impala for looking 'legit. Would be lights mounted on inside parts of the vehicle. Like these novelty lights I found mounted still to my trunk...

Theres also a rack back there... this is now assembled in my car, with my stock radio attached to it.

Another interior thing, would be getting a police-style console with all the buttons, radios such as a CB and whatnot in the center. The consoles can easily be found at http://www.galls.com

So I end with this picture from the inside of my cruiser. Which desperatly needs one of said above consoles along with a CB.

Re: Police Look-alike impalas

I'm not trying to flame anyone, but I was wondering why someone would want their Impala to look like a patrol car.

Do you want everyone around you to drive the speed limit?

Also, isn't there a law against impersonating an officer? It seems like having a faux police car would be ideal for pedophiles and kidnappers.

Just because a car looks like a police car, doesn't mean it is, look alikes never will have full decals or light-bars of sorts. You would have to try to be pulling people over to 'impersonate', or making use of flasher lights you shouldn't be. Its all fully legal until you do something stupid with it.

I can't say why someone would purposly try to make a car look like a cruiser aside from restoration projects. I've seen a handful of fully restored Old cruisers (50's 60's 70's Cars). Some of us are just stuck with a car that we bought that just happens to be an ex cruiser. I'd rather have all the equipment, though useless to me, to be there rather than a bunch of holes all over the car.

Lastly, the people who drive the speed limit, just amuse me, except when they won't pass you and just 'camp' in your blind spots.

Re: Police Look-alike impalas

i made mine look like a patrol car cause i love the look of it. It just looks badass. Plus i'm going already on my way to being a cop.

Here are my pics, there are a few changes to my car since these pics, i added trim rings and a few other interior things. I also just purchased a spotlight. The car started out as a 2000 base model with a spoiler, hubcaps, pinstripes etc. Now i have a kickass crusier.

Pat, you remind me while I so desperatly need Tinted windows... Not a common find on cruisers up here, but some do have it. It would just be nice to have, I think it makes the car as a whole look that much better.

Re: Police Look-alike impalas

the K-9 units rounds here have the blacked out windows, it truly makes the car look even more badass.

Mine being a true Police car, that would be evil for me to install, since the backseat lacks both seatbelt restraints and any working door mechanisms.

Re: Police Look-alike impalas

I want to put a couple fake cell antennas on my back window. I figure if people think I might be an undercover officer they might STAY OFF MY ASS for a change on the expressway. I wish I had become a cop. I have many friends who police officers and if I could go back to being 20 I would have gone that route. Also here in Rochester they have undercover cars that are bronze with the spoiler and tinted windows so my car looks like one of theirs but noone would ever thinks its a cop car.

Itll be close to, or more than $20 so plan on that. so just figure about $50 total. maybe even $55.

I already sold mine to someone when I upgraded to the SLP spoiler. shipping was something like $22 IIRC.
