EGR Valve

Hello all....I really need some assistance here......I "failed" my state inspection because my "check engine soon" light was on. However, the diag. read that the "EGR Valve was low".......needless to say...I had the EGR Valve changed twice (not at the dealer...but a local repair shop).....I've had 5-6 diagnostics read on this car and it all comes up the same readings. EGR....................I took the car into an emissions repair shop and was told that there is not a solenoid for my vehicle. Oh...I have a 2000 Firebird V6 -Auto...........so now I am at a lost...I've looked up everything there is to know about an EGR and am still at a lost....can someone please help me.....do you think that the EGR was installed incorrectly (if that is possible) or is it that I need to take my car to the dealer and possibly have my computer reset. Any and all information will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I don't know what state you live in, but in NY they check for faulty bulbs, and they also plug into the computer for codes so that may not work.

Re: EGR Valve

I'm not too familiar with those engines, but your new EGR is probably fine. You probably have another component of the EGR system that has failed i.e. pressure sensor, position sensor, vacuum solenoid, but I don't know which, if any, of these your car has.

Re: EGR Valve

Thank you all for your help.....needless to say...I had to take it to the Pontiac dealer.....it was the EGR Valve that needed to be replaced.....supposedly the shop that put the valve on didn't do it properly or either the valve was faulty......they wouldn't say which was which.....however...I'm blaming both the valve and the repair person................thanks to everyone that responded!
