Is the main relay the same thing as the MASTER relay?

I wrote previously about my 1999 Honda Accord not restarting and then stalling while driving. All research has pointed to the main relay. However, I've noticed that sometimes people refer to is as the MASTER relay. Is this the same part?? And should I order this from Honda directly? I have a friend who is going to fix this for me who is a mechanic. Thank you for any info.

Yup! Also called the fuel relay. Yes - buy it from a Honda dealer.

Honda uses a lot of relays in their cars. Mostly, they are in the ignition circuit for items that draw a lot of current. By using the relays, that current does not have to go through the ignition switch. The main relay powers the ECU, the fuel pump, the fuel injectors injectors and oxygen sensor heater. The main relay is really two relays, 2 diodes and 2 resistors mounted on a printed circuit board. The components rarely go bad, but there have been problems with the soldering of relays onto the board. This can be fixed by reheating all the solder connections on the board.

Thank you for the info. I just called Honda to order a main relay, and they said it was $73. Should I simply resolder before ordering the part?

Actually...I called another honda dealer, and they looked it up by my specific VIN...it's only $34.30!

I paid $65, so that is a good deal. It's amazing how much prices vary from dealer to dealer!

I would try resolding the relays on the PC board. It is a lot cheaper then buying a new main relay.
