Titanium vs. Stainless steel

I'm trying to decide whether to get an Apex'i GT-spec or an JIC Magic Full titanium exhaust. I know titanium weighs a lot less, but what about corrosion? I mean, I'm not driving it in the winter, but even heat speeds corrosion. And I haven't yet heard a JIC exhaust, I know the Apex'i Sounds great.

Ummm....

Titanium is ungodly light and corrosion? AHAHAH Corrosion = non-existant for titanium. It is used for the turbine blades on very low tolerance Jet engines. The reason most metals are succeptible to corrosion when heated is because metal has pores just like our skin and when it heats up the metal expands making the pores bigger. And titanium doesn't expand hardly at all even at 600+ degrees F. So most likely you wont have to worry about corrosion.

Re: Titanium vs. Stainless steel

Niether of the materials corrode. Hence "Stainless" steel. Expansion and weight are the only differences. I wouldn't fret over the weight of an exhaust system either unless you are doing a professional level car.

Re: Titanium vs. Stainless steel

Titanium is one of the best metals on earth, light, strong, heat resistant and does not corrode. That is why I have it in my arm .
But for street car I will not spend my hard earned money to save a few pounds. IMO it is pointless.

unsprung weight refers to wheels, brakes, etc.. not exhaust.

but unless you're building a time attack car, or a show car, the cost of titanium isn't worth it. Unless they're near the same price, then go for it. =cool points and the next car meet. lol
