2001 Passenger Mirror

I Just Recently Had My Passenger Side Mirror Taken Off Due To Hurricane Katrina. Luckily This Is The Only Damage I Had. My Question Is The Mirror Itself Is Fine But The Screws Are Broken. Do I Need A New Mirror Or Can I Get A Bracket Kit?

Re: 2001 Passenger Mirror

Hey aoneal. These mirrors are easilly broken of at the screws. As far as I know there is Not a brackeet kit. Are they power mirrors?
One of my GAs has had both broke several times, usually the car wash or my kids use it for gymnastics. LOL! What i did was drilled out the old bolt holes in the mirror, and put in dome headed bolts with the nuts inside. Dome head bolts look like these here http://www.chaos.org.uk/~markt/scans/7m-dome-bolts.gif
Looks alittle tackey, but I saved myself alot. Dealers want to much for a newone over $100(for electric), junk yards might have one but the plastic , where they break, could hav unvisable cracks. Find a Auto Body shop and they'll usualy can get one for around $70-80, i think i paid $68 for a new one at the Body shop. I saw them on a web site too for around $80, but i can remember where they were. I'll PM you the link if I find it.

I had the same issue with my passenger mirror (except I took mys off with a shopping cart), but anyway, I ended up doing the samething to my mirror, and its on there better than it was when it left the factory. You don't know how much money i've saved by doing this. But to make it not look so tackey, just take either some automotive paint or a black marker (like I did), and go over the bolt heads, it doesn't look bad at all. Actually, if u stand far away, you can't even tell that anything happend!

Re: 2001 Passenger Mirror

Ya i painted mine to match the mirror(black) and you really cant tell. I heated the bolt a 'little' to make the square hole tight so when you tighten it doesnt turn. I also put a dab of rtv on the Inside around threads, just to make sure no mioster gets in.Hope this helps aoneal.
