Question Yet another question, A/C smell.

I bought my 03 used from a fleet remarking group. Anyway, I was told it was never smoked in. But as a person who use to smoke, I know that it ruins your A/C as far as the smell goes. And I know this was smoked in! I have heard that you can clean out something to reduce the smell. It's making me sick! I live in AZ so there is no getting around using it either!

Anyone know what that might be and how to do it?

Thanks!

Re: Yet another question, A/C smell.

I know this sounds strange but as a car detailer, I have done this with much sucsess, If you spray down the a/c vents with some sort of automotive cleaner (simple green, spray nine or even lysol it shuld reduse or elimiate you problem. Don't over do the spray ( don't empty the can in just one try, About 3 to 4 seconds in each vent is plenty, then dry off excess. let dry about 10 to 15 minutes before use.

Re: Yet another question, A/C smell.

I have a '96....which does not have a "cabin" air filter. If you have a cabin air filter....you may want to change that. I would spray some lysol in the filter compartment before installing the new filter.

On my '96..... I started the engine.....set the A/C to the A/C position (running the AC)...and set the fan to "HIGH". Then I sprayed Lysol in the outside air intake.....right by the windshield wipers. This got the Lysol mist throughout the complete A/C air path. I did this before taking my church youth group on a mission trip......to reduce the chances of mold caused alergies.
