Bench Racing vr4 vs. wrx

OK, let the bench racing commence...

My vr4, mods in sig, however I'm not sure if I'll be running stock boost (12 psi) or up it to 14.5. Also I should/want to change my plugs and fuel filter but don't know if I'll have the time. I may have the stock downpipe and main cat on for inspection. And I KNOW I have some boost leaks. So yeah, my car isn't in tip-top condition, but it looks as if I'll finally have it running again early next week and I already got a challenger.

His wrx has a turbo-back exhaust, he uped the boost by 7psi or so, and has rims (possibly lighter?). He beats the hell outta his clutch, so he just got a new stock one put in last week.

Now I've raced plenty of wrxs and never had problems, especially on the highway, but the extra 7psi of boost is making me wonder a bit. His friend says the kid ran a 14.5 stock. I ran almost a full second faster than that when I was stock. I think we are basically running a 1/4.

Now I know that if I'm running modded I'll kill him pretty easily...no real difficulty there. However, I'm almost debating running him in the near-stock state I'm in now. On the other hand, his friend is talking so much trash, that I really don't want to lose, and winning some money would be nice as well.

I know he will simply dump his clutch at like 6k...I'm wary of my t-case so I have gotten into the habit of slipping it at 3.5-4k. Anyway, those are all the details I can think of. So as I said...let the bench racing commence

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Re: Bench Racing vr4 vs. wrx

I vote vr-4. what is the boost at normally for a wrx? Has he run it since he modded it? You said what you ran stock, what do you run now?

Re: Bench Racing vr4 vs. wrx

i think that you'll win, even if you kind of give a halfway launch...because i'm sure that you know that VR4s have a better top end than a WRX....and if you're able to stay with him off the launch you should be able to take him the rest of the way....

Re: Bench Racing vr4 vs. wrx

i think if he ups his boost by 7psi, it will be a close race with you in stock form. so i say this, if you dont want any worries and wanna win a little cash, put the pipe back on, turn up the boost and roast him.

and yeah, be carefull on the t-case, i think i told you i got mine fixed with the call back. but lets not even have to go through the hastle

win or loose just dont toast your car bro, thats how Gateway got started, look at all the crap he has had to deal with!

You did say its a regular 227 hp WRX right? not the STI.
you should be able to kill him.

Re: Bench Racing vr4 vs. wrx

Where have you been Musashi? Welcome back BTW.

Anyways, I'm not sure who will win, because the WRX will have rather long gears as well, even though not as long as the VR4, but longer than the Sti. With your car being in the condition it is it, I think the WRX will win.

They're both AWD, they both suffer from roughly the same amount of drivetrain loss percentage.

Alot higher than that

As far as people saying I'll kill him...I really don't think it will be that much of a blowout. However I do think I have the advantage. Also I haven't had the time (working 13 hour shifts) to send out my ECU for the necessary repairs, so the race wont go down on Monday as previously planned. So that gives me a few more days to play around under the hood. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

This particular WRX is running 17.1psi with a few extra upgrades (check it out). Hope this helps as a bit of reference! Good luck.
