I have a both an 89 and an 86 Cherokee. My 86 is nicer and has a 2.8 my 89 has the 4.0L Will the 4.0 bolt to the tranny of the 2.8? Or will I need to take the tranny as well.

Re: Engine Swap
I think that about 100,000 V6 Jeep owners have asked this question.
No, the 4 liter and the 2.8 are completely different. You would need to swap the following from the 4 liter into the 2.8: Engine, transmission, shift linkage, transfer case, drive shafts, (possibly the axles, too, not sure) engine and trans mounts, radiator, radiator supports, exhaust system, entire wiring harness, including fuel injection, ECM and under hood vacuum system, fuel pump (possibly the entire tank), front suspension springs and shocks, and possibly the brake master cylinder and booster. Oh, and you also need a BFH (big f****** hammer) to make dents in the firewall for the extra clearance required. Its a lot of work. If you must have the 4 liter power, you are better off to sell both and buy the best 4 liter jeep you can afford. It will be much cheaper in the long run. |
