Re: why do some of you get 17-20 mpg and

I get about 9L/100KM with my 02 Auto tracker. That converts to about 25 miles / US Gallon. I do mostly highway driving from home to work, steady 110km/hr the whole way.

If you do a lot of 4WD, or a lot of stop and go driving, you'll probably see a lot lower than the sticker rating. Make sure you keep up on preventative maintenance. Tire pressure, oil changes, air filters. Treat your car right and it'll steal your money slightly less.

I just got back from a 1000 mile round trip in my 99 2dr 4x4 2.0 5spd

And I got between 28-30mpg going 70/75 onthe highway. Depends on if I use the A/C or not too.

I have the 2.0L and get an average of 27 mpg, this is with about 40% city and 60% hwy. The 17-20 mpg your hearing about may be the trackers with a V6.

Tracker Mileage

I have a 2000 Chev Tracker Convertable 4 WD small 4 cylinder with a 5 speed stick. It is underpowered, but the good side is that I routinely get (and I check every tankful) 29 to 31 MPG. Air conditioner usage costs me exactly 1MPG. (I never turned it off this summer) I also got mileage on the 29 MPG side when using gas that was 10% Ethanol. My can is a little lighter than the 4 DRs, and most of them are automatics. I generally do not exceed 65 MPH on any highway and tend to be on the slower side on rural roads.
