1991 S10 electrical problems

I plugged a phone charger into the lighter socket and it sparked.

After the sparking I noticed that I lost the brake lights, horn, and radio.

I've checked all fuses and bulbs, all are good.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the help, I've got to get this truck inspected by the end of the month!

First I would look behind the cig lighter for a bad wire or at least unplug the socket. There is a common wire that will power a few fuses. Pull the fuses for each item that is not working. Take a test light and clip it to a good ground test your ground on something that is working to be sure it is lighting. Then run down the fuse sockets of the items that are not working. Test each pole of the socket. One of the poles should light your test light, if none of them light it that you have a loose or burnt wire. Lots of times it is rite at the conection inside the engine compartment where all the wires go into the back of the fuse panel. if not you will have to identify what color wire is the common to them all and trace it. I think it will be gray but don't hold me to that. I only have a book for the 92 but it does not show the radio being on the same common wire as the other item that you have not working. Hope this helps.

Re: 1991 S10 electrical problems

In my 1991 pickup s-10 it was an orange i believe. I am not sure what it could be. one to think about wou;d be do you have power to the fuses on one side? Someone could have put in after market stereo and done some 'Special wiring' to get power.
