A4 is making a putting noise at idle

Hey guys,

I have a 99 A4 1.8T Quattro. Recently, the car has been making a putting noise at idle. It doesn't happen all the time, but like 2-3 times a week. I am hoping its not the cylinder, but thats where the sound is coming from. Any ideas?
