HELP with a 91 S10 Blazer trany
I took my Blazer through a good mud hole yesterday and let it sit for a while after I got it out. When I went to leave it would not shift out of first gear. Ohh and by the way it is an automatic. Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong with it???

Full of water possibly
Check the dipstick and see if it's too ful. Remember that you have to run it to check the trany fluid |

Yeah I checked all that and it is fine... I was wondering if any one knew if I have an electronic tranny or if it works off the old vaccuum lines.

Re: HELP with a 91 S10 Blazer trany
Sorry but it's electronic
The electronics appear to be pretty well sealed though, but you might have knocked a plug off or something. Is there any reason why you left it parked there? besides possibly being stuck ![]() The reason why I'm asking is because if you had a break down it might be related. |

I had to let it sit to help my buddy work on his Jeep. It didn't set in the mud the whole time... It sat after I got it out. Before that everything was great. Check oiut this website and you can see the fun we have.
http://www.geocities.com/kymudslingers/sept5.html as you can tell I am the only Blazer there. My friend was telling me that there is a cable that attaches to the Throtle Body that controls the trany as well... Do you know anything about that???? |

Re: HELP with a 91 S10 Blazer trany
It's called a detent cable. All that really does is tells the trans when the throttle is open to a certain point and to drop it down a gear as if you were passing. Water shouldn't have done anything to that.

Re: HELP with a 91 S10 Blazer trany
Check your VSS connection on the tail shaft of your tranny.

Re: HELP with a 91 S10 Blazer trany
That detent cable is the TV cable and that and the governor are the 2 things that "tel" thel tranny what your vehicle is doing. Governor- tailshaft speed, TV cable-throttle position. THe TV cable does not only determine when it downshifts, it also controls line pressure which affects shift firmness, torque convertor lock-up, and obviously upshift points too. This is only if you have an older truck (92 or older) with a 700r4. 93's and newer have a 4L60E (if it's a 4.3) which is physically the same as a 700r4 but is electronically controlled. It would help a HUGE deal if anybody who has a question would tell everything they could about their truck like the YEAR,ENGINE,2 or 4WD, MANUAL or AUTOMATIC, and any options it might have if they have any relation to the problem.
and yeah I realize you have a '91.

does it have a vaccume line on it to the modulator? If it does this could have been pulled off and it wont shift out of 1st.
