Nissan Z Family Portrait

Finally got around to taking some pics of my kits so I decided to post them up here for the first time. As you can see I'm a bit of a Z fanatic...

3 Generations of Z's...

Tamiya 350Z Track, built straight out of the box. The wheels are suppose to be bronze but the Tamiya color turned out a lot darker than I expected...

This is the Fujimi 240Z with 17" Watanabe Wheels (I think), a rear strut bar and a front air dam.

This is based on the Fujimi Nissan MID4 which I kindda turn it into a Nismo S-tune of some sort. The wheels, seats and some cockpit bits came from a Z32 kit. I also built a rear diffuser and put some CF decals on it and the front air dam.

I started the 350Z out with a gloss black/gold leaf tamiya mix. I was kindda going for a cherry black look but didn't really like how it turned out. So I apply a few more coats of gloss black but you can still see some gold sparkles in the paint. Because of the gold in the paint I can't really polish it so I put on a thin layer of tamiya clear coat. I guess that's why it looks kindda flat in the pics.

The Mid4 was a Nissan concept car built in '87 I think. It was a V6 mid-engine, 4WD, 4 wheel-steer super car. Parts of its drivetrain was used in the Z32 300ZX and the R33 or R34 Skylines. Here is a pic of the original kit before I murder it...

Re: Nissan Z Family Portrait

Yeah, I got the Tamiya Z31 kit at home but I decided to built the Mid4 over it because I thought it was more interesting. I just order the Fujimi 300ZR kit which I like better than the early Z31 so I will probably build that one next. I also have the AMT 280ZX Turbo, Tamiya and Fujimi Z32 convertibles and the Fujimi 94+ Z32 on the to-build pile. The only one that I think I still need to get is the 280Z, either Monogram or the Fujimi Tohge kit I suppose. I don't think any manufractuer made the 260Z, but then again 240Z, 260Z and 280Z all look pretty much alike.

He, he. It's kindda of a deep orange. Actually I built a Ferrari F2003 right before the 240Z so I had some Ferrari Red mix left over. I think that was 10 part Tamiya Red and 1 part White. I added some Tamiya Orange to it and that's what I got.

OH MY GOSH!!!!!
I love Z's
Great job on the 240z, nice wheel choice. Is the Fujimi kit that comes with the engine?

I noticed that you made the rear Z32 wheels deep dish on the MID4...that's bitchin'!!! Did you notice how it looks alot like a Lotus Esprit?
Keep it up. Al 4 models are clean and beautiful.
Rock for the Z.

The Fujimi 240z that I built does have an engine but I didn't think much of it. IIRC it's not suppose to be very accurate...

It's my first try at doing deep dish and it turned out ok. The front has a small lip too. The Z32 wheels came from a Fujimi kit but the tires came from a Z32 Tamiya kit. The rear tires are actually much wider than the rear wheels. I guess Tamiya was trying to model the 245 on the USDM TT's while the Fujimi kit is following the JDM 225's on the rear. So doing the deep dish was kindda neccessary.

You know as I was building the Mid4 I keep thinking the profile looks alot like some other car but I keep thinking it was the notchback Fiero. But now you mention it I definitely think it's Esprit.

I also added some small touches on the Mid4 that doesn't really show or pretty hard to see in the pics. There are small nismo decals on the seat back and engine cover. The interior has 2 carpets, one with Z logo on it. The steering wheel also has little Z logo in the middle. I cut out the slots on the front of car and built a radiator behind it. You can't really see it because I put black mesh on the grill opening. What else... Oh yeah, I put a little 3 gauge pod on top of the center console ala 240Z and 350Z. I will try to take some better pics of ther interior tonight and post them.

Thanks for all the compliments.
