98 jimmy digital dash cluster

It appears that my digital dash has fried and was wondering when I have it repaired, will my odometer still reflect my current mileage? I couldn't find any info on whether or not the previous mileage is lost forever or is there some other way my truck keeps track of miles? It seems it would be rather a pain in the *** to sell if there is no history of accurate mileage. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
