A bright spot in an otherwise shitty week

My wife came home from town in the Diesel today.....She said"I noticed the warrant had expired,so I took it to the testing station.."

I'm thinking... NOOOOOOOOOO

broken set mount, rust in 'A' pillar, highstop needs new bulb..............

......."What did they fail it on?"

What did you do that for, they'll have screwed every last fault and then some.....I was planning to hide the rust this weekend, now it will have to be welded....

"Nothing,it passed"

:frog: :frog: :frog: :frog: :frog:
bet the tester's guide dog barked at it though.

Thats good news then, Mr.T

On the topic of testing.....

In one way I feel bad for those of you out there that have vehicle inspections and emissions testing, and in other ways I really wish we had it here. Here (North-of-nowhere), once a car is safety checked and on the road, it doesnt need to be re-checked unless it is changing owners and even for that, It only needs to be done if the car is 10yrs old or more. Meaning that every possible hunk of dog scrap with wheels is out there driving.

Legally the cops can pull you over and make you get your car safety checked if it looks in really horrible shape, but I have never seen that happen. The reason I kinda wish we had some sort of testing here, is cause there are alot of unsafe vehicles on the roads here, which makes for more accidents than need be. Cars with completly worn-out brakes, bad lines, leaking fuel tanks, busted off exhausts, cut or torn belts, bald tires, Excessive rust, the list goes on.....

I usuially get a safety check done every year (just for my own sake) and I fix the stuff that doesnt pass. I like knowing that my car is fairly mechanically sound.

But then comes the bad side of inspection, where shady inspection stations (at tire shops) tell you that your tires fail inspection when they really just-barely pass.

Good on you, man. I absolutely agree with you, and for those reasons I'm glad that we do have a requirement to get cars checked at regular intervals. Saturn makes a good point though, that it needs to be fairly well monitored, so you don't get stung. We tend to go to testing stations, who aren't garages, and don't fix or sell stuff, so they have no interest in making you get something fixed if it doesn't need it. Still, some modded cars have had trouble at times.

Around here we have to get inspected every 2 yrs for cars 6 yrs and newer, and every year thereafter. Unfortunately, an extra $20 will "pass" any car at a cheap service station.

Its every 6 months here, and they keep raising the bar.....a rust hole the size of a match head in any of the sructural bodywork can fail you,and repairs have to be welded, not filled.Mechanics are greedy buggers who will fail anything they see as a business opportunity, because once they have issued a fail notice, you can't take the car elsewhere ,the fault gets logged into the computer system and any other garage or testing station that tries to issue a warrant is advised of the outstanding faults.Testing stations don't generally offer a repair service so they tend to be more lenient,as the test fees are their only income.Last time we took the diesel in they were a bit too lenient, they passed it even though we later found out that the strange rattling from the front wheel was a sheared axle nut loose inside the wheel cover
