How To Change Automatic Transmission fluid and Filter??

Sup guys,

I did a search on this but came up with mixed results. Being that its my first time I want to make sure I get it right. I recently drained some trans fluid and noticed some kind of grany substance which prompted me to want to change the fluid. Can someone give me some precise instructions on how to change the trans fluid on a "AUTOMATIC 2.4 ENGINE", also is it necessary to change the filter? Does anyone have a link with possible diagrams on how to do this? Can I use GM/Penzoil Synchromesh fluid on a auto transmission?

btw, is it normal to have those grany material in the trans fluid?

Thanks

no, you don't HAVE to change the filter, but it can't hurt and is a no-brainer if you plan on taking the pan out. There are several different ways to change the fluid, and if you plan on changing the filter, the best way is to just drop the pan off, empty and clean it, change the filter, fill the pan with a little fluid, bolt it back on, and fill it the rest of the way with the fill tube.

No, you cannot use that fluid, you must use the fluid listed in your owners manual or one listed as being compatible to it.

If you have the drain plug thing, use it. I had to change the fluid and filter on a car without a drain plug and it was a pretty big mess. I think its ok to have the grainy shit in there, all of the tranny pans I have seen have had some in it.

Thanks guys,

I love the fact that I can rely on you guys.

What are your takes or feedback on Tranmissions flushes? I have asked several people about this and some have said that its good yet others have said that their transmissions have acted up after they performed the flush.

powerflushes are the devil in the mechanical flesh

gravity (fill, drain, fill) flushes are good.

First off, do a search and post in the right section of AF...you missed the ford link by alot

But if your overdrive is blinking on and off...then you have a more serious problem...SEARCH
