1985 Fifth Ave: Whining
My uncle has a 1985 Chrysler Fifth Ave. (V8 2 barrel carb) This car has nearly 300,000 miles on it, and aside from interior and exterior appearances, is very reliable. I noticed the other day while riding with him, the car makes a whining type noise while accelarting. My uncle says it's always made this noise, and he has had the car for over 2 years. My question is, is this a normal sound for this particular car? Or should he be concerned this noise is an indication of a problem, even though this is something he noticed over 2 years ago? I appreciate any opinions.

Re: 1985 Fifth Ave: Whining
Sorry I failed to mention, the whining noise is coming from the rear of the car.

Re: 1985 Fifth Ave: Whining
the whining from the rear sounds like the ring gear and pinion gear have either excessive backlash and/or getting excessively worn. Try replacing the fluid in the rear differential and putting an additive in for posi-type rear ends, that should quiet things down a bit, though not much.

Thanks theFREAKnasty82. I thought it was a transmission issue.
