How long has it been slipping? If it's been slipping for a while the cliutches and bands are probably warn down and bushings/bearings are probably in need of replacing. Is the fluid level up to where it should be? When was the last time the fluid was changed?

Working on trannies require special tools or the abity to make do without.
Pulling a trannie is heavy dirty work. There is a place called Phoenix Transmission that sells rebuilt trannies. Do a web search for them. You could get a used one from a bone yard.....taking a chance on how long it will last.

What shape is the van in? How many miles on it? How long do you want to keep it?

Dan
