neon shifting proble

The transmission will not shift from second to 3rd under load, but will if you accelerate lighter than normal. If you take the car up to normal rpm to where the car is ready to shift from 2nd to 3rd, and place the car in neutral and drop in back into drive, it will shift from 2nd into drive.

When stopping, the car will begin to shake around 10-15 mph. If you simply tap the gas pedal, the shaking will stop and the car will go back into 1st gear and the shaking will stop. Or, if you place the car in neutral when stopping, and place the car back into drive, everything works fine.

there may be a simple fix here...remove your battery and check the shift down linkage on the top of the tranny, the cable connects to your throttle body. The linkage itself rust and binds, just remove it off the tranny, clean it up (some WD-40) and place it back on. Adjust the cable per your manual or if you need additional help let me know...good luck

I will do as you recommended when I have opportunity later this week. I will let you know if it worked or not.

Thanks for your help.

Ok this is a shot in the dark but check where ur battery is. My car was in a wreck, and since the day i bought it, it drove a lil funny and i couldnt figure it out. Then realized my battery was sitting on top of the tranmission shift cable.. It was doing the same thing ur talkin about.. Hopefully this will help..
