Power steering problems
I have an 89 GP with a small 6 that is leaking fluid all over the place. It's all over the belt and engine all the way up to the pump reservoir. I would assume that it either has to be the pump or a hose? Any way to test? Seems to be an intermittant puddle under my car.

Re: Power steering problems
power steering pump seal failure is fairly common on GM 2.8 and 3.1 engines. IF the underside of the hood has an oily stripe on it just above the p/st pump, I'd bet the pump is your problem.

Re: Power steering problems
You'll need a special tool to remove/install the pulley, but the seal replacement is fairly simple. If you price it out, it may be easier to buy a reman unit, that way, if the problem resurfaces, its covered under warranty. It really depends on what you have more of, time or money. Consider it will take approximately an hour to replace the just the front shaft seal, on top of remove & replace time, so what's your time worth?
