2000 Windstar Right Front Rattle

I am new to this forum and hope someone can give me some advice on this problem. There is a rattling noise in the right front of the car when going over even small bumps. There is no noise when the brakes are applied - even lightly. This problem has been going on for many weeks. I just took the right front wheel off and could find nothing loose. There is some noise when trying to rotate the axle. (I left it in gear so it just barely moves). I jacked up the left side and the noise is similar - but no noise when going down the road. Could it be cv joint problems? There is no cracking or popping when cornering. I cannot find anything loose - anywhere. Thanks in advance for any help.

Andy

If you do a search on here you will find a bunch. Look at the stab links closely, they often go bad. Also a weld breaks loose in the right strut rod bushing are which may need welded. Last thing is some times the struts themselves go bad.

Just for kicks - I had/have exactly what you describe, even on the same side. Take the wheel off, check the inside dic pad and see if you are missing the little tin clips - there is one on top and one of the bottom. If you are, that's it.

I read it wrong the first time. If the noise goes away with slight brake pressure then it is agood chance it is the pads rattling.

Thanks for the help. I will check the pads this weekend. I had changed them in the past year and those clips may be gone.
