Question Prelude Mileage...

When i get my prelude 95, i will expect about 80k to 100k miles on it already. should i worry about that? i plan to modify my car so will the mileage play a big factor? is there a way to help my engine by rebuilding it or whatever? i dont know whats its called but i think its called rebuilding the engine. and how much would something like this cost? how long would a prelude last, like up to what mileage usually? basically what im saying is will the mileage on the car affect my car and cause me to have many repairs or breakdowns? i hope you get my drift, thanx in advance:flash:

Things you should have REPLACED by a reputable mechanic before attempting to modify for performance:

1. Timing belt (a MUST if it's around 80-100,000 miles)
2. Water pump
3. Belts
4. Air Filter
5. Spark Plugs
6. Oil Filter

Things you should have CHECKED OUT by a reputable mechanic before you modify for performance:

1. Head Gasket
2. Power Steering Unit
3. Clutch (I'm assuming it's a manual tranny)
4. Transmission
5. Distributor
6. Cooling System (related to head gasket)

If you don't have these things done, you can do serious damage to the engine and ultimately the whole car if you modify for performance without proper care or good parts.

If you don't do this, then take a look at the pic I've attached...you'll have to do that at some point... (That's my dad and brother pulling the engine out of my 1990 Lude...going for a full replacement b/c the idiot that owned it before me screwed it up)

Preludes are notorious for cooling system problems, but if you have it checked out and replaced first, then you'll be good to go on modifying your 1995 Lude into the biggest, baddest Lude on the block.

Good Luck!

Mileage? Pppffftt..

I bought my Lude about 3 weeks ago at 156k with most of the major components above replaced, including the timing belt and distributor, and since then i've put about 3,000 miles on it, and it's ran fine... On top of that, it was considered totalled in it's infancy at 11k. It's been rebuilt since then, and it runs great. No worries.

I would Say that all that stuff is manditory with a car with 100k on it but if you really want to mod your car seriously like any turbo 10psi or above you might want to have you block honed and get forged pistons heder excetera i know that you can get an engine rebuilt around where i live for like 2500 and that includes blueprinting(balencing)a new water pump and the like. im going through the same problem with my 90 integra. depending on how the guy your buying it from took care of it sometimes its cheaper to just buy a new or lightly used engine
