Has anyone had trouble with the signal flashers? Recently my flashers tend to work intermitently. I put the flasher on and sometimes it works, other times nothing happens at all. I have found that I can slide the hazzard switch from side to side and the flashers will start working. What does the hazzard switch have to do with the flashers???
I thought about changing the hazzard as an attempt to fix the flasher(indicator) problem but I don't know how to get into the dash to get at the hazzard switch. Do I have to remove the console between the 2 seats? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks everybody. Dean |

The hazard switch is the module that controls the flashers.
All you have to do is remove the bezel around the radio and replace the hazard switch assembly. There was a campaign on some GA models for that concern..call your GM dealer and give them your VIN so they can check.

Re: 2000 Grand Am flashers
No you dont need to remove the center console. The hazzard switch on tthe dash has a timer within the switch. If the turn signal on one side of the car Flashes faster than normal you hav a bulb out. If both fail to work it could be a fuse, faulty hazzard switch or a loose or open connection. If the fuse is blown, look for bad wires before replacing the fuse. You can test the Hazzard switch.
pop off the bezel holding the switch. probe the terminal B with a test light connected to a body ground. if the test light doesnt light, check for Ground fault in the circut wiring. Test between B and A terminals of the connector, there should be power. with the switch on backprobe connectors G and F w/ test light connected to ground. With the key on turn the signal switch left or right, the test light should flash, if it doesnt the Hazzard switch's bad. Hope this isnt to comprehensive . this should help resolve ur trouble.
