Unhappy 2002 LS, starting problems

I have a 2002 MC LS that has a starting problem which is getting worse.
At random times, the car won't start for no aparant reason.

The engine won't turn over at all when I turn the key to the start position. The security light flashes in the dashboard before I start it.
It happens at random times so I don't think it is heat/cold related.

I don't have a lot of money to pay the dealer right now, so I prefer to find out if there are any suggestions out there.

I have searched this forum and can't find any similar problems described. I am ready to trade this car in because this is such a pain.

Thanks for any responses.

Re: 2002 LS, starting problems

I have a 2000 Monte Carlo and was having the same problem, good news is that it can be fixed bad news it will cost you $500, the ignition switch must be replace. I also had to get it done at the dealer, and if you have any remotes with the car make sure you take them with you. They will have to be reprogramed to the new switch.
Mine did it once and was about 2 months later and it did it again, then it started doing it about once a week. A real pain when your in a hurry. And if you do not get it fixed one day it will never start again.

I'm having that problem too. What I did (that seem to work this last time) was I took my key fob and hit lock twice. I heard a click and the car started. Try it and let me know if it happens again! I'm taking mine in to the dealer in a couple days to have them check it out, but what I did is worth a try!
