Intake question

I am going to upgrade my intake system next week and I have been doing alot of research but I stil have a few questions.

1)which filter?
2)which piping and what size?
3)should I buy a kit with everything? But some kits I have looked at might have a good filter but the piping sucks so I am confused on the piping.
4)Does spending $230 for a Injen intake kit worth it, or would a $80 kit be sufficient enough amount of HP?

From what I have read, the cheaper intake kits state a raise in 7-15 hp while the expensive state a raise in 10-15 ( enqoute). Whats an accurate raise in Hp for an expensive kit compared to a cheapo.

5) what matters most, the air filter or the piping?

Re: Intake question

Intakes dont do anything but add maybe 2 hp. It really doesnt matter.

First of all, we need to know if your car is turbo or NA, and what year. Put that info. in your signature so we don't have to ask everytime you have a question.

Re: Intake question

Its been said before. A pipe is a pipe. Wether its a $200 injen, or an $80 ebay pipe, or a $20 mendrel bent exhaust shop pipe...a pipe is a pipe!! ANY pipe will do, but you want to maximize airflow (its all about airflow) so get the biggest one you can. K&N is the best bang for the buck, IMO. I wouldnt go HKS or any of the other fancy brands, simply not worth the extra dough.

no, it's not worth an extra $100 for the injen intake, all you're doing is paying extra for the name brand sticker on it. Check out Dejontool.com straightlinespecialties.com dsmparts.com and extrememotorsports.com to see what they offer. They all do the same thing, and the gain from any intake pipe will be minimal.

As far as the filter, it honestly doesn't make much of a difference. I have a K&N on mine and really like it. Some kits however already come with filters so I would just use that.

They're all right, it doesn't make a difference. Find the biggest filter and pipe you can get to fit for under $100. Any intake will realistically only give you minimal hp gains..like 1-3.

Re: Intake question

If you plan to upgrade a turbo, the stock intake wont fit to the bigger housing.

Do you think an extra 2 hp over the other person is really gonna matter? If you can't drive for shit, he is gonna whoop you even with that 2 hp advantage.

BTW, I had this flashback of Fast and Furious when I read that.....let's keep those to a minimum.
