car hesitates while shifting

I have a 2000 SL2 and sometimes when I shift the car hesitates. It also hesitates on the freeway. I have changed fuel filter, air filter and spark plugs. Any suggestions on what else to try?

Re: car hesitates while shifting

It could be your throtle position sensor. How many miles are on your car?

First welcome to the forum.
Yes, how many miles? I would start with a bottle of injector cleaner in the gas tank. I like chevron with techron myself.

thank you for your feedback. My car has 91k miles and I have put fuel injector cleaner in the tank. I have also tried putting premium gas in the car. I noticed this morning that the car is bogging down at all times now not just during shifting.

I like to start wth the cheapest things first. I would clean the EGR valve and it's port. Pretty straight forward removal. Cleaning requires a can of carb /throttle body cleaner and an old tooth brush.
I would also clean the throttle body. I prefer to remove it to clean it but it can be done on the car with the same spray cleaner.
If you do it yourself you might want to have both gaskets on hand. Also let me know if you are going to do it yourself. I can provide a link that has a how to and photos that will make it even easier.
Check your vacuum lines for leaks. The bad rubber lines will be either hard and brittle ot soft and gummy. Replace them as needed.
Good luck and let us know.

I know this sound crazy but, have you checked your spark plug wires?? sometimes they come loose or could be defective, even if new. Also, check to make sure your wire is connected with the correct plug. Get a Haines book. In the first pages it gives you the firing sequence. You might also find this information in your owner manual. Well, good luck.
