Chief Justice Rehnquist dies

Heard on the 11:00 news tonight that Chief Justice of the Supreme Court passed away today. It will be interesting to see who will replace him as Chief Justice, and who Bush nominates for the new open spot on The Court, especially with dealing with all that is going on in the hurricane ravaged areas.

Less than 2 hours ago I asked my dad who the cheif justice of the supreme court is. Hmm guess we don't know now!

It should be interesting who will replace him. I think that there will be a very nasty fight in senate over the confirmation.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Bush just try and get Roberts nominated as Cheif Justice...Bush and everyone else knows that Roberts is a sure bet to be nominated, so pushing it one step further couldn't hurt...though I would imagine that would piss off the other justices beyond all belief.

Just heard on the news today that, that is EXACTLY what Bush intends to do. I would hope that he would have chosen the new Chief Justice from one of Rehnquist's colleagues already on the bench. Kind of like ascending up the ranks to that position. I guess Bush wants to make sure his legacy lives a long time on The Supreme Court.
