Getting 16mpg

Hello all. I filled up the other day, with the cheap gas-$2.67-and figured out my milage. I got 16mpg. Hmm, that's not right. Last night my service engine light came on. Went down to AutoZone and they hooked thier computer thing up to it. Need a camshaft position sensor. He said if that was bad it'd go into 'limp mode' and that all my performance and gas milage would be shot. Well, it has been sluggish. I'm having this replaced anyway, but would that account for my 16mpg. I'm supposed to get average of 28. Wouldn't think limp mode would cause it to go down 12mpg..but maybe. What do you think?

limp mode would slaughter your gas mileage as it would be running rich the entire time you drive it...

Re: Getting 16mpg

what was the actual code?

if you don't know, go back to AZ and have them check the codes again and come back and post the exact code so folks on the forum can help you.

did you replace the cam position sensor or not?

Re: Getting 16mpg

I don't know the code, and we hit the ERASE button...would it still be in memory?

I haven't had it replaced yet, but my mechanic is going to do it Tuesday or Wednesday. He's already bought it though.

Didn't do the sensor. Light didn't come back on again. Had it tuned up, and serpentine belt tensioner replaced. It ran a little better after then tuen up, but then went back to it's old slow sluggish self. Put some fuel injector cleaner in the gas, and its running a little better. Replaced fuel and air filters, changed oil and changed oil filter since I got it. Not sure about the milage after the tune up/tensioner/injector cleaner/fuel filter, but it is still SLOW What could this be?
