Fujimi decals and Tamiya clear

Hi, my first post here on the forum. (i've been looking around for some time now).
Anywho, I'm in the process of building the Berlin 2000 190e evo dtm mercedes. And as many people know,it has allot of decals. My question is, does fujimi (very thin decals) react with tamiya spray paint clear?
I donnot want to kill my car with this, cause the kit is not really an easy to get one.

Re: Fujimi decals and Tamiya clear

I would test it on a scrap decal from the sheet if I were you (such as the manufacture logo on the decal sheet). Start off with mist coats and work your way up to a nice even shine.

(I don't know what I'm talking about, this is just gathered from other people's posts)

It's certainly a risk. You may very well get lucky, and have it work fine- or it may destroy part or all of your decal work. I've had some spectacular results wit TS13, and some horrifying ones. Personally, if it were me, I would not do it. There are others here who might do it, but I hate stripping- especially if it means finding a new decal sheet. I would use Tamiya acrylic clear, airbrushed on.

Tamiya clear can eat decals. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. That's a bit too risky on a model that's already painted and ready for decals...there's no room for mistakes.

For rattle cans, Gunze B-501 Mr. Topcoat is much better over decals. I've also heard people get great results w/Krylon Crystal Clear and that it doesn't hurt decals, I haven't tried it over a model but I have used it on artwork.

I've had excellent results recently airbrushing both Testors clear gloss Acryl and Future acrylic floor wax-I never have liked Tamiya gloss acrylics airbrushed. While the Acryl takes longer to dry, it ultimately ends up incredibly hard and buffs out very nicely. It thins nicely with 91% rubbing alcohol. The Future is a bit softer, it goes on very glossy w/o thinning but won't hold up to vigorous wetsanding/buffing like Acryl will. So basically I'll either use Gunze Mr. Topcoat or Acryl gloss over any body w/decals, at least until I try the Krylon stuff.

Well, I tried today.
The TS-13 paint on my Merc. Berlin 2000 car and it worked. JEEJ
4 mist coates and 3 wet coats on the car with 15 minutes time between coats. I will post pics as soon as I got a camera. (none at the moment in the house).

Re: Fujimi decals and Tamiya clear

You have more chance to have paint reaction than decal reaction.

If the decal is well set (microsol) and dry, there is very litle risk. But the paint can be a problem
